This holiday season in appreciation of our clients, Revel made a difference in the community by donating our time and talent to an organization called Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly (LBFE). This organization is committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly population within the Greater Twin Cities Area.

Every Revel team member created a cozy fleece tie blanket for one of LBFE’s elders. The LBFE volunteers get to choose one of the tie blankets to give to new members entering their programs. These blankets help volunteers forge new, and life-sustaining relationships with the Elder Friends they serve.

Revel also made a financial donation on behalf of our clients so LBFE’s elders could receive friendship and flower visits, holiday meals, and have large social events to bring elders together and celebrate life.

Isolation among seniors is a growing problem. The AARP Public Policy Institute recently published the results of a new study that documents the cost of isolation for our elderly population. In partnership with researchers at Harvard and Stanford, the study found that:

“…socially isolated older adults are at greater risk for poor health and death than their well-connected counterparts. A lack of social contacts among older adults is associated with an estimated $6.7 billion in additional Medicare spending annually. The study’s findings raise issues for Medicare and public health officials.”

“We wanted to find a way to contribute our time, talents and treasures on behalf of our clients and partners in the spirit of the upcoming holidays. Partnering with Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly was a great way to do this as they have a mission to serve seniors which aligns closely with many of our clients,” said Krisi Bailey, Revel’s VP of Partner Success.

It’s our hope that Revel’s combined efforts will bring not only physical warmth, but also emotional warmth, knowing there are people out there who care about the happiness and sense of belonging of older adults in our communities.

The Revel team would like to thank Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly for making a real difference in the lives of people who would otherwise be isolated and alone.
